dashpot flooding

Hi all having a occasional problem with the dash pot flooding had it to bits countless times and cleaned and checked valve seat etc,but it keeps re ocurring, is an inline filter the cure or what :?: 1960 mk1 850 standard carb

Have you checked if the float is adjusted correctly.?

there is no way of adjusting the float height,on this carb

put a thicker washer between the float needle holder and the lid of the carb, this drops the needle down a bit

Fit a "Viton" tipped needle valve.

Fitting an in-line filter just before the carb is a good idea. Even with Viton tipped needle valves I was getting occasional flooding, probaby small specs of rust coming through from the petrol tank. The in-line filter cured it,

found a unipart, new needle and seat kit,in a box of old bits and pieces,yesterday it was in a sealed brown packet, with a SU part number, fitted that, and i have had no more trouble yet :!: :!: thanks for your input might have to fit the filter yet :?:

just dump the early metal float and fit a later float assy with plastic float

fit and forget,,and nobody will tell !!

The current rubber tip needle valves do not use viton as this suffers badly in modern fuel. The "rubber" end has been changed to something that is fuel resistant.

If you are using a real viton tipped needle from an old kit it will probably fail.

thanks for all your help and advice folks,bought a stay up float and needle@seat kit ,and fitted one of the chrome and glass type filters and had no more probs :!: thanks again for all your expertise lads :D :D
