Key numbers

Does anybody know where I find the key number on the ignition barrel of a Mk 1 or Mk 2 Mini. I can see some numbers on the side but they look like date of manufacture to me. Cheers. Mark

you will be looking for a 3 digit no .
most Lucas date markings, are 4 digit

Indeed it should but that won't be stamped on the barrel only the three digit number.

Still can't find it. I took the cylinder out of the housing. All I can see is several numbers on the ignition barrel housing ie the one with electrical connectors on it. Any chance of some pics showing where to look. Is it the barrel with tumblers part or the barrel housing with the spade terminals? Cheers. Mark

The no, will be stamped on the outer housing, thats were I have found them.

On my '63 the key number is stamped on the front of the lock, just by the key hole.

Thanks guys. Found it. Removed the barrel, the number was smothered in graphite grease but eventually found it just lurking behind the chrome front collar.
