I've got these magnesium-alloy wheels and was wondering if anyone here could remember the name of the company that Mini Mag/World did a feature on about their recondtioning services. I seem to the remember one of the sets of wheels that got refurbed was a set of mag minilites.
I would do it my self but I don't fancy something going wrong and ending with me melting my lovely Eleco Falcons
Also has anyone on here used the wheels in the past and do you remember what wheel nuts you used for them? It seems like they need an Exacton/Revolution style nut but I've not found anything that works yet.

I don't know to be honest but they are very light even with a set of new Camacs on them. All I've been about to find out about them is what's on the Mini Wheel Dictionary.

they are very light, they where the lightest alloy wheel id ever weighed - they are a very high quality wheel, its just a shame they are a 5" not a 6"!

Magnesium alloys come in various sorts. Tech Del minilites were pretty much 100% magnesium which can be brittle, is prone to porosity.... JA Pearce used a slightly different alloy (aluminium and something else) which gave a harder metal which was less prone to porosity, but more prone to fracture. They are all pretty different.
If you have a set of mag wheels, the best thing you can do is get them chromated, which off the top of my head is like anodising, but in a solution of something dichromate....if you put different "things" in, you get different colours. From dark grey to gold. The finish is very hard wearing indeed. COSHH doesn't like dichromates, as if there is a baby within 3 miles, it will melt. You can do it yourself and it is simple. Treat everything as poisonous, including the fumes, take care and don't be blinded by the science.
If you decide to do it, I can dig out my method stuff. I'm going to chromate my minilites when I need them again.

I'm going to get one of the tyres pulled off this week and see if I can get the wheel round to a place that's done some anodising for us in the past. Hopefully they'll be abel to tell me if they ally or Magnesium.
I have a set of 7 or 8 by 13 J a pearce magna wheels which need light restoration. I think there magnesium right!? I'd be interested in knowing how you get on with having your wheels restored. it's not something I'd like to try doing myself!
