Paint finish

Post by 850 super deluxe »

Hi all, Quick question could someone tell me what the correct paint finish would have been on my 62 morris super, eg would it have had stone chip under paint or was it just painted as normal.

Thanks Paul.

Personally, I think just paint. A brushed-on seam sealer along panel joints followed by primer/paint - no more than a quick lick - more like overspray than a real finish :( . Many people finish restored Minis now by using a stonechip (with good reason) but I don't think it is what was used on early cars.

From what I have seen they all had a bitumastic type black coating over the red oxide before paint. It is always a a point of fustration removing it on a restoration, so stonechip could be considered a modern substitute for to black goo I guess.

No the floor only got paint.
I think the bitumin type spray coatings would have been a dealer thing.
