helical transfer gear noise

Post by KA2S4 »

Hi Guys,

The transfer gears on my 970 have started to whine,

I rebuilt the motor 1500 miles ago and the transfer gears were silent, but now they have started to make a noise similar to a S/C box.

I can hear them with the box in neutral and the clutch out, when the clutch is pushed in the noise goes away.

Will it get worse? should i be concerned?

James.

Sounds like a bearing to me. Did you replace them in the Transfure case?

Thats the bearings for sure James, mine did that on my 1275 engine before it let go, gearbox, transfer case and tranfer gears were all trashed so don't chance it, join the engine out club James :( :x

James, I agree with what others said re checking it without delay. If a noise is getting noticably worse, something is wrong and it must be checked to avoiud catastrophic failure. Prob'ly not what you wanted to hear :(

 James,
You should fit a SC set this time when your engine is out!
So you won't hear a strange noise but just the normal SC whine!

Your 970s motor is stunning!
