Unipart GFE21 filter

Post by sclemow »

Does anyone have a stash of GFE21 oil filters or know of anyone making a suitable alternative?
I've just fitted my last one.

the premium range was supeceeded years ago to the standard ones.

at the time unipart claimed that the spec of the standard ones was the same and there was nothing to worry about
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

Yeah, I had a few left over "in stock" and have been using them up.

What's your opinion on whether they are of equal quality?
The standard ones don't have a magnet in do they?

from memory unipart claimed that the filter material in the GFE166 was upgraded to the stuff that was in the GFE21, the standard one doesnt have the magnet

ive used the GFE166 for years with no problems

It sounds like there isn't a huge amount of option.
Thanks Guru!

If my memory serves me correctly GFE148 also fitted the mini, there is a blast from the memory banks, used to fit them in the small garage i worked in back in the 80's.

Also sure gfe121 was the one for the pinto's, other than than there is no more memory's lol

GFE21 was the premium filter for the mini and they where supposed to have magnets inside 'em. But after cutting several open I can say I never found anything magnet like in there.

The number here in NZ used to be GFE103. I am presuming this is a cartridge type oil filter you are talking about. These have long gone here. Just get yourself a spin-on housing from a 1980 mini or there abouts, and there is a big selection of spin-on filters available....even here in NZ.
RYCO Z63 is the one we use in the race car. Is longer than the old filter, but there is clearance between it and the subframe. Others are FRAM and Valvoline, just for a start. The spin-on is SO much easier and better......no difficult O ring to dislodge, and to hell with the originality look. As for a 'magnet' inside....dream-on!!!!!!
