Later single tower bolt subframe into a Mk 1??

Post by rolesyboy »

Would anybody know if a later single large bolt through the towers will fit a twin bolt Mk 1 shell? From memory the front panel mountings differ as they were rubber mounted but I guess I can pack this out. I know this is sacrilidge but I have a Suzuki Swift engine and Allspeed subframe that I would prefer to drop into a Mk 1 shell than a later Mk 3/4. Don't panic, it involves little in the way of permanent body mods and I plan to keep the car looking like a 'warm' Cooper with original track etc.Cheers. Mark

My mates cooper had that done and the car felt vague as bits were moving the bulkhead wasn't tubed and the rear leg to floor mounts were an abortion,I sold him a mk1 subframe and the car is transformed

As stated above, it does physically fit.

But it is only any real use for keeping a shell mobile in the garage while waiting for the real thing - unless you want to modify the shell.
