Alternatives to MiniSpares spotlamp brackets

Post by gs.davies »

I received these from MiniSpares recently, scorch marks all over them, not really any good for fitting, and so I queried it with MiniSpares.
IMG_2025-03-17-160450.jpg

Here's the response..

"We have recently changed supplier and these are now a much better bracket but getting these polished makes them too big a jump in price from the old supplier, so this is the new finish."

Any suggestions for better lamp brackets? I want to fit a Lucas Spot and a Lucas Fog, don't have the budget to stick them inside a Benelite, as much as I'd love to!

They do look a tad rough but if they were mine, I'd grind/file the crap welds to clean them up, countersink the holes, bend to suit your car if necessary, prime and paint to car colour - or whatever. 20 minutes?

I know someones going to say that it shouldn't be up to the buyer but other than the welding the material looks OK

It’s stainless steel though Peter. Should be a case of clean and fit. These are rougher than a badger’s arse !

Smiffy's Bits on eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173866004471 ... Sw9Flf603K

Not cheap and a different mounting which may or may not suit your lamps,

Totally.

And whilst they’ve offered a refund, I’ve got to bear the cost of return postage.

Phone call tomorrow I think. Maybe this should have gone on the ‘Turning the air blue’ thread 😂

They’re suited to the Rover Cooper type, not the Lucas ones I have. Sadly.

The "Minispares" take it or leave it attitude does not earn my respect & i am not the customer.. if it was my purchase I would send them back with the Bill for Postage & quote the 2015 Consumers Act. "Not Fit For Purpose" .

Meantime copy them & knock up your own quality made items. ;)

ps.. dont mention any Badgers otherwise the Gov; will arrange to get them exterminated

Ever heard of Autosol polish?

Bracket on left as it came out of the bag. Bracket on right after literally 30 seconds of rubbing with some Autosol on the end of my finger.

I'm no stranger to Autosol. I just don't see why they can't supply cleaned parts that are ready to fit. What next? Order some brackets and they send an offcut of steel bar out with a glib explanation that they can't afford to have them cut and shaped anymore?

I cannot recall where I bought mine, which look much more sophisticated than yours Gary. I thought it was Catmint, but cannot find them there anymore. But it was the older version of the ones from Minispares :?:
Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s :ugeek:

This is the item description,

Minispares design heavy duty STAINLESS STEEL spotlight bracket, for fitting to cars where it mounts on the front panel valance and grille support panel, giving it perfect rigidity so that the power of the lamp was not impaired. Many cheap aftermarket products do not fit as securely as this and are not recommended as the lamp power is diminished by vibration. Supplied raw but can be polisehd if desired. Made in the UK.

The "raw" finish isn't great, but It's not like the description doesn't make it clear.

That's been changed, probably because I complained about it. Might be nice if they also put a picture up of the 'raw' finish too. Also laughing at the 'can be polished if desired'. Like you'd want them unpolished  A better description would be 'left unpolished, so you'll have to finish them off so our supplier doesn't have to'.

Honestly, I get that some people think MiniSpares are beyond reproach for all they do, but when they let themselves down like this...

They have now offered a free post return, however, while they were deciding on that, I've started 'polishing' them up and so I'll keep them. Seems labour on polishing is a valuable commodity
