BLYTON - Chartiy Total 2024

Post by mk1 »

Pete & I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended our Blyton action day yesterday.

I am pleased to be able to announce that through your genorosity, we have raised a total of

£4404.91

Every penny of which will be paid in to our chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Care in the next day or two. I will post the receipt here as soon as the transfer has been made.

As well as thanking all those who attended & contributed so generously, we would like to say a special thank you to Our super efficient crowd control officer John Cooper, Jeff and Nathaniel sorrill & Pete's Son George who were on gate duty pretty much all day, Harvey & Nigel Death and their Fastest Mini in the world team who contributed over £500 to the total & finally Andrew from AG Classic car Tuning who raised Over £800 contributing his expertise all day for free.

I hope we can all agree that this was at least as good as all the others & maybe, just a little better.

To tell you the truth, and on a personal note, before this years Blyton, I was going to tell Pete that I was stepping down from helping next year due to other commitments & a flagging Mini Mojo, but after such a great day, I'm looking forward to doing it all again next year.

A storming amount of money to raise for a great a cause helping the families of those affected by cancer, my ram pipe socks have been well and truly blown off!! Thanks to every single one of you who have contributed but extra special mention to John Cooper, Jeff and Nathaniel without whom I know we would never have coped, chiefly due to the constraints on space placed upon us again this year caused by the recent weather. It was a busy event no doubt but I’m sort of glad there were so many other events on at weekend because I doubt we’d have coped with any more, we literally ran out of paddock!!
I was saying to Mark as we rode around in the Moke choosing our favourite cars how proud we should be about creating something so different than anything else out there, how cool it is too see such kindred spirits having such a relaxed and enjoyable time and should we get the space back next year I think it’ll be even better, maybe reintroduce the Saturday night social in the clubhouse?
I have to say the traders really did us proud this year, proper bustling little trade village, operating in such straightened times and without the support of any of the main parts suppliers, I appreciate your efforts so much and realise how much work goes into it. Big up to the boys in Orange for keeping us safe all day and to Javelin for running a tight ship as ever and their donation!
Nigel and Harvey Death did us proud, as did Andrew from AG Tuning and I’d like to thank those that came from far and wide to our favourite little Mini event. I doff my cap! Thanks all once again.

* Oh and one last little anecdote because there’s always at least one funny story that comes out of every Blyton. This one concerns a track car that arrived in a covered trailer only for the owner to suddenly realise whilst unloading it that he’d left the (quick release) drivers door at home in his garage. ( I’m not sure he got a run but I asked the chief marshal at the end of the day and he said he’d have let him run so long as he had door bars on his cage , I hope he did!)

That’s another thing I barely looked!! 🥴. I hope there weren’t any really juicy bits on there but I did spot a few nice parts on my way past! Any nice 4 1/2 mag Minilites?? (Missed a cracking set on EBay just recently  ).

Hope to add a little more to the pot as the weeks roll on, my son George is doing a skydive soon at Bridlington, I had to opt out unfortunately due to my dodgy landing gear!!

A bit too far to come for most of we Mini enthusiasts Downunder, although one of our mob on holiday in the UK was planning to attend. If you spoke to a senior citizen with a smiling face and Ozzie accent hopefully you made him and his wife feel welcome.

Regardless, well done to Mark and the rest of the Mini community for supporting such a great cause (the dreaded Big C) and having some Mini fun at the same time.

Definitely agree with this sentiment. I love living in Australia, but these are the moments I wish I could’ve been back home for, as the photographs shared have been absolutely awesome.

Thanks again for all of your immensely hard work in keeping the mini spirit alive, and for genuinely making this a calendar event that nobody wants to miss!

Of course raising an incredible amount of money for charity is just the icing on the cake too… Congratulations to all involved and those who attended with their cars, stories, and family members young and old.

We’re all really so lucky to share in multiple generations worth of knowledge and passion for these great little cars… Long may it live! :D

By way of recommendation, may I list Leeds’ Premier scrap merchants, Gold medal winners of Any Old Garbage Collectors of the year for the North East for 9 years in a row?

Environmental Clearance Specialists of Meanwood Road in Leeds. Proprietors one M and A Forster

“Collection of any ferrous or non-ferrous metal and providing funds for needy causes like Dufferspeed racing and Anorak Rivet Counters Anonymous”

Thanks Mark + Co (+ Pete obv.)

(Tongue removed from cheek mode ...Mark contributed hugely to the charity - no, not me , for my scrap)

I sold a set of innocenti wheels to a chap on the way down to Blyton. He mentioned he was looking to part ways with his 4 1/2 magnesium minilites. He's happy for me to pass his details to you if you want them.
