My gear knob is a bit floppy when changing gear which is very annoying but I put it down to the rubber thread which is not good for positive movement. I also have a cranked gear leaver extension fitted. A quick question - do the alloy gear knobs have alloy threads which would make the knob more secure?
Thanks in advance.
Cliff

Re: Gear knobs
Hi Cliff
Not sure about modern ones but my old Alexander knob had rubber in and the same issue … I pulled it out and put a new piece of fuel line in its place and screwed it back on and it was very firm

Re: Gear knobs
Mine was wobbly so I turned a nut down and bonded it in to the gear knob, I've used a lock nut to wind up and lock it in the correct orientation, bit like the early cars were done.

Re: Gear knobs
Thanks Nick. I did try a lock nut to stop the extension moving before my trip on Sunday but that has not worked. Your solution looks good.

Re: Gear knobs
I had a round alloy knob from MiniSpares, no insert, solid metal, but it shows as out of stock.

Re: Gear knobs
I had a walnut aftermarket knob in my car with a bit of rubber in it. Same problem.
I turned down a piece of nylon in my wood lathe- drilled and tapped it for the gear shift threads... epoxied into the knob.
No more problems!
