How do I change the bush on top of the diff housing, for the long rod that comes up from the underneath, connecting with the remote change. Does it tap out easily from the other side? Or do they get stuck, need heat etc? (Gearbox is out the car).

Minispares say theres 2, wheres the second Bush located?

There's one at the top and another at the bottom.
They usually tap out quite easily with a long punch or metal rod from the opposite side.

Don't try to tap them back in. They are quite fragile - sintered I think.
Use some threaded rod with nuts and big washers to press them in to place.

Be careful when changing the bush that's in the diff cap - it's easy to break the casting. I made a tool that works on a thread to pull the old one out and press the new one in.

I suspect the bushes you were looking at are those that go in the back of the shifter housing, there is 2 there.

Along with what Chris says....
I tap the bushes...(from memory...think it I use a 7/16 tap)!!!.
Then, thread in a suitable bolt....use a long thin bar and tap them out.
Installing new ones is a different job
I use a long threaded rod with nuts and washers to pull the new bushes into place.
I also soak them in oil overnight prior to installation.

In which case Lakeland997’s explanation for fitting is correct.

Lakeland997 is also dead right regarding the use of lengths of threaded rod and washers to act as a gentle puller when pulling in new bushes. Don't forget that you can use the same plus sockets when pulling the old bushes out.

And, as Dermott says, leave them in oil overnight or for at least 12 hours

Lengths of 10,12 and maybe 14mm lengths of threaded rod are something that home fitters should have in their odds and sods drawer. Available from all the half decent hardware stores such as Sydenhams

Hmmm, no luck at all with this so far. The lip seems so small so I cant punch either of them out, it just slips off. The hole is a little larger (13.2mm) than the largest ie 1/2" tap that I have so cant try the puller method either. Grrrr.

Cant you just machine up a small suitably sized inner and outside dia punch. Simple job using a bit of off-cut.

Won't a shortish length of 10mm threaded rod and nut do it? If you lived near Oxford, we'd have that done before tea - just time for a beer at The Dog House!

I’m still unsure which bush your looking to remove?

I have previously melted the rubber out of those and then collapsed the remaining outer tube from the side.

Hi Graeme C, it's the bushes you linked to, for the rod that goes from the remote change up through the diff housing.

The shaft itself measures 12.5mm so that's 1/2 mm of slop!

Because theres a bush at either end, I cant get anything OD inside there.

Re read 360 GTS post, he's got it right (except the tap size).....
Tap the bush 9/16 coarse, thread a 9/16 coarse bolt into the bush, and, use a piece of 1/2 inch round rod to knock the bush out from the other end......

To do the other bush, do the same, or, use a piece of rod just a bit bigger than 1/2 inch to tap the bottom one out......

Tis done!

I dont have a large enough tap but I did have a large bolt. Bush was soft enough to allow it to cut it's own thread. However the puller method didn't seem to be doing anything, so instead it was easy to tap it out with bar hitting through from the other end, now in contact with the bolt, now wedged inside the Bbush.. 2nd one was easy.
