Lucas 608 Mounting Bracket
The mirror I have features this mounting bracket using a collet style end with a clamping nut to secure it to the mirror stem. Is this a standard 608 part that has been modified to accept a two hole plate for the Mini ?. Unfortunately as the offset of the holes is a lot smaller than that on my Mk2 I can't use this bracket. I can obviously try to make something myself to replace the plate but thought I'd asked incase there is something else available as a direct replacement with either a wider plate with slotted holes or even the full three hole arrangement as per the standard mirror bracket.

Re: Lucas 608 Mounting Bracket
Do all Mk1s just have a two screw fitment for the mirror ?. My Mk2 has the three screw arrangement and the offset of the two holes on the underside of the cant rail is a lot wider than the bracket shown (42mm vs 30mm, approx.).
I would also purchase one from Gordon if he ever makes these. There must surely be quite a demand.

Yes I looked through that before I posted. Ultimately I'll probably end up doing something similar.steve1071 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 7:40 pm Have a look here;

Re: Lucas 608 Mounting Bracket
Mine uses the same 2 screw fitting as this one;

I have seen the sucker and stem off a barnacle mirror used as well to steady the 608 stem. Think some of the later works cars had this mod. Might have a pic somewhere I’ll add.

I believe this one has the original Mini style bracket. http://mk1-forum.net/viewtopic.php?f=5& ... =Lucas+608

Re: Lucas 608 Mounting Bracket
The one above does. This is a 2 hole pressed steel bracket that fits straight over 2 of the 3 normal mounting holes.

Re: Lucas 608 Mounting Bracket
Not exactly up to the standard of Dr.Mabo but should be ok. The stem is brass so I couldn't weld it to my home made bracket, resorted to JB Weld. Not ideal but worth a try (still to be painted)

Would that sort of bracket and fitting pass any sort of current safety criteria? I'm not one of the 'elf 'n safety inn'it' gang, but dear o' deary me, that's a recipe for shredding a forehead and eye socket in an accident

None of the car would pass todays safety criteria so I don't see what difference it makes.Peter Laidler wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 5:55 pm Would that sort of bracket and fitting pass any sort of current safety criteria? Re: Lucas 608 Mounting Bracket
Don't think there was a safety requirement up until about 1965 when the mirrors had to be 'breakable' on impact i.e most of them became plastic.Peter Laidler wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 5:55 pm Would that sort of bracket and fitting pass any sort of current safety criteria? The twin oblong hole mount is as fitted to Aston DB5/6.

Re: Lucas 608 Mounting Bracket
This mirror has the exact same collet type stem adaptor and screw hole spacing as mine so looks a likely source. This is Holdens but probably available elsewhere for less if anyone is looking for an adaptor. The screw spacing is 31mm so doesn't fit the three hole arrangement but possibly would fit earlier cars with the two hole mirror attachment ?. Another option on Ebay, 39mm hole spacing.
