Twin hs2 carbs vs single webber progressive carb

As the title states...

I'm debating switching to a single webber progressive for my '64.

I have twin hs2 SU's on her now.
I'm much more familiar with tuning the webber due to years of working with aircooled volkswagens.

I'm not as familiar with tuning and adjusting SU carbs, and after cleaning and a new gasket set... I'm 100% sure they need adjustment and tuning.

I don't have the benefit of what you gentleman call rolling roads here in the states- that are anywhere familiar with tuning them either.

Most are into late model jdm import or fuel injection or diesel truck setups.

I know that i can get the jets and needles for the webber to adjust the webber for the 1310 engine that is in my car much easier.

A good condition and well tuned carb that’s matched to the engine spec will always out perform a poorly tuned carb or a worn out one.

If you are more experienced with the Weber and can get it dialled in, then I’d say go for it.

I started with twin 1 1/4 SUs. I have used 45 DCOE and 48 IDA for autocross, Solo 2 and vintage racing. I'd estimate I have several thousand dollars in calibration part for Webers. Since I have gone back to street cars, I'm once again back to SUs due to simplicity and ease of finding parts. I have a couple of progressive down draft Webers one with intake. Also a 48 IDA with two intakes and one air cleaner. While I have never tried a progressive two barrel, I know people who are very happy with theirs. Steve (CTR)

The dcd on my mk1 1330 was awesome, it took a session on a rolling road to dial it it though.
Im back on the twin su's now purely for the original looks.

My problem is getting parts here in the states.
They're not cheap here.
A rebuild kit is $253 for a twin set on mini mania.

And I'm back at square one on tuning.
I can get progressive parts all day long due to VW being a very popular car here for resoration.

Easy to get, cheap to rebuild and repair.

Mini Spares has the rebuild kit at about $100 less not including shipping. Mania will charge shipping as well. Changing to a Weber will require a new manifold incurring both additional cost and possible clearance issues.
