Get Carter Film based on this Murder

Post by larrysimon »

I thought some might like to read about a Famous Murder Case in the North East featuring a Jaguar MK 10 and E type.

The original "Get Carter" film was partly based on these gangsters who came up from London and set up a Firm in Sunderland.

The Police photos are used within the web site.

"It was also revealed that the red paint type found on the bumper of the Mark X contained the exact compound used on British Leyland vehicles, therefore it could not be said with certainty that the red paint was from the E-type." Or a Tartan Red recipe !!!!

Michael Caine ; ''d'you know I'd forgotten what your eyes looked liked Eric... still the same... piss'oles in the snow''

Ian Hendry "I see you've still got your sense of humour Jack''

Michael Caine : ''Yes. I retain that, Eric''

If you watch it often enough you'll spot a continuity error - when Con and Peter turn up to collect Jack Newcastle they used two different red Mk2 Jags in the scene where the front passenger door gets knocked off its hinges, one had steel wheels and hubcaps and the other one has wire wheels! For a film which is very bleak, it was actually shot in the summer of 1970!

I thought "Get Carter" was based on the Ted Lewis book "Jack's Return Home" it would be interesting to know how close to reality the story was. One of my favorite films with some classic one liners, a real gem!

Yes "Jacks return home" book was inspired by the "One Armed Bandit Murder" in its self is a fascinating story, I was a kid when it all happened and my Uncle worked for Vince Landa who was the alleged convicted murderers brother, Michael Luvaglio .............Landa changed his name from Luvaglio !

Heres a link where the connection is made between Get Carter and the Murder.

A couple of 'Get Carter' screen captures below from the 'Reel Streets' actual film locations website, featuring a Mk1 Mini and the red Mk2 Jag with wire wheels. Reel Streets is documenting the ‘then’ and ‘now’ of movie locations worldwide.

The Old Man who looks round to check out Michael Caine has 6 Fingers on his right hand .............. check it out ! :o

Steve Chibnall's book on the making of the film is worth a punt...

Here is a link to the Local newspaper article about the famous Get Carter car park just before it was demolished, the one where Coronation Streets Alf Roberts goes skydiving only without a parachute.
