Windscreen surround profile

Is the profile of the very early windscreen surround different to later cars?
On my 1960 Mk.1 the profile runs straight down from the aperture to the scuttle - I bought a scuttle corner repair section that seems to have an extra step on it - or am I going mad...

Yes early screens are not recessed.
