I would say not because the painted grille was dropped some time prior to the introduction of the "Super Deluxe" model being introduced.

I have an unmolested Morris from Sept 64, and that has a painted grill. Heritage Cert says Super Deluxe. It's one of the very first hydro models.

interesting Andy. What colour is your car and grill.

I was wondering with my car being Tweed Grey what would be a good colour for the grill?

Tweed Grey too I think?

I dug around and found an old pic to reassure myself. The photo is dated '87 when my mate and I picked it up. A one owner car with 33k and every receipt. Supplied locally too. Sadly it took a little vandalism before we got there, but pretty superficial. The car is a very early hydro with the earlier sun visors, Sept 64. Inside is the usual SDL pod etc.

I drove it home and it has been in the garage ever since!!!

Brochures here may help:-
http://www.minipassionmini.50megs.com/p ... chures.htm

The painted Morris grilles I remember were white as above from this 1964 brochure link below, however the brochure above also shows a chrome grille and the spec details says export availability of bright metal radiator grille.

My first Mini in 1974 was a standard 1965 Mini-Minor super deluxe in Tweed grey and it had a chrome grille with some rust....

Hi Andy,
Interesting about the grille....do you think it is the original grille?
AKD shows the change to chrome at body # 12588 on. That is approx. early Oct 61.
I have an original painted grille here.....doesn't look white.....more of an off white...bit of cream ish!
Cheers

The owner said that the only things that had been changed were the coil, plugs and other service items including a set of tyres Dermot. The original spare is still in the boot and all receipts are with the car. We were shown some family pics with the car when a year or two old by his daughter, and I don't recall the grille being different? I've got a chrome one for it now and a NOS front badge and moustache kit, but this discussion makes me think about have the original blasted and coated off white or cream to match the original wheels?
