Uneven washer jet pressure

Post by Mark1Peachey »

Can anyone give any suggestions why I would have uneven washer jet pressure on my '61 morris mini minor. The passenger side is really good yet the drivers side is very weak. I have checked that all the hoses are clear and if I disconnect the passenger side and block the end the drivers side works great. I have the standard set up with the wingard manual pump, a non return valve in the washer bottle, and a tee piece after the pump splitting to the two original black domed washer jets.

Any thoughts would be most welcome

Mark Peachey.

The water will find it's way out of the easiest route first, are the jet holes different sizes?

Thanks for your reply, I don’t believe so. I’m now wondering if the tee piece has a non return in it and the pressure might not be high enough for it to open fully. Going to investigate that tonight.

Maybe try swapping the jets from side to side and see what happens then? I would guess that one jet is slightly restricting the flow?

Mine is the same. I was going to try a new jet, they're on my next minispares order, so interested in this thread.

I had brought new jets, to be fair this was a few years ago, and the jet doesn’t have the little ball inside that allows the adjustment of stream of water. First try of the washer and the new jet shoots water over the top of the car!! I ended up repairing the broken original jets.

I’ll switch the jets round tonight and report back. 👍🏻

So I switched the jets around and gave them a little blow out and have two jets of equal pressure. Possibly it was as simple as a slightly blocked jet.

Thanks for all your help,

Mark Peachey.
