K&n hs2 filter elements

Post by Robbie224 »

Hello. Would 2 k&n filter elements inside Cooper twin metal airbox replacing original paper filters mean retuning could be required because of better air filtration might mean engine fuel/air mix changed towards being to lean?

I would say, without the benefit of any experience of your particular case, that the actual difference in air FLOW will be so marginal. Also, that it will make so little difference that only scientific instruments will be able to differentiate between FILTRATION side of your particular conundrum.

Hopefully, others will come on board but really Robbie, you ought to decide just what you want regarding carburation and filtration and then get it set up once and for all

In one of his tuning articles, maybe in Mini Magazine, Keith Calver claims K&N filters actually restrict airflow compared to original filters.

Be interested to see that, from memory (might be wrong or making it up :) ) but Vizard found the opposite didn't he ?...isn`t there some stuff in the Yellow book ?

Have been wondering lately if there was a reason for K&Ns being less prominent in the tuning catalogues etc...

Mr Vizard did sell KN filters

If you want more flow through air filters there’s only really two options:
Add more filtering area
Make the holes bigger in the filtering media

In regards to the initial question: the answer is maybe. If the old filters were causing a restriction and the new ones aren’t you might be getting more air in. You’d really need to check the mixtures throughout the load range to know for sure.

Yes agreed, but prior to that, material type, structure, material consistency/quality will all play their part…...not just about how big the hole is
