Dunlop tracking gauges
I was lucky enough to get hold of a decent condition set of Dunlop tracking gauges. However they appear to be slightly different than the norm. At the wheels they have large triangular plates. They are marked AG0/40 but don't have the traditional adjustable bar arrangement that appear on the Mk1 Performance Conversions website. Having never seen another set like it I wondered if anybody has any instructions for them or can shed more light. They also need some feet by my reckoning.
Thanks. Mark

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
my "guess" .. they are specific set made by Dunlop to suit a "whatever" type of vehicle .. we had something like in the 1970,s to set the tracking on Mobil Cranes they were raised up on Legs to reach up to the big wheel rims .
You have the looking through tube with angle setter that will look across at the Mirror . should not be a problem to convert it to be a specific set up for your 10inch Rims .. why make it fully adjustable when you know what you will use it on.
Dunlop Tracking Gear is simple & effective.. i am going to use my set this morning

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
If it's all in aid of tracking on your Mini Roly, tongue-in-cheek, I'd give them to someone you don't like as a set of fishing weights And get hold of a short piece of 16" long, 3/4" thick wood to sit across your tyres*, a 1 metre bungee rubber and a cheapo builders horizontal laser level from B&Q. Plus a half decent 6" steel rule.
(* or 10" with radially curved end to sit comfortably inside and on the wheel flange)
That's all the mini owning fraternity, certainly with a standard, out-of-the-box mini needs to set the tracking of his car.
Been doing it this way since I first saw a laser level. It's called K.I.S.S.

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
When I bought my set, an essential garage tool that has been used by nearly all my local mates & has never let anyone down, I didn't have any instructions for them.
I contacted Dunlop who sent me a set of instructions, a new plate with the readings on & a slack handful of screws for free. I'd suggest you do the same.

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
Thanks folks.
Mark- I spoke to the Dunlop place. Very helpful but alas the AGO/40 shows the one with adjustable bars. Not the triangular plates.
Oneball- thanks. You might be right but the question is how?
111Robin- how do the yellow ones fix to the rim (if at all) ?
Cheers. Mark

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
Any chance of some better pictures so we can try & work out how they work?

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
I think you should have something like this on the triangular plate to clamp it to the rim. You can then level the arms on the central pivot and take the reading. Not entirely sure how you’d do a zero check of the gauges before you start though, unless you use the ends of the pins rather than the notches.

On mine there's a central threaded rod with a tommy bar that you wind either way to increase or reduce the span of the grippers. Once wound to your wheel diameter you just nip it up to secure the device. I can take some close up shots if it helps ?. Once both are installed a wire is connected between the two protractors to provide the measurement.

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
More detail on the attachment method. The grub screws grip the edge of the rim :

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
Here is a better photo of the triangular plates I have on my set of tracking gauges
These are marked AGO/50 although the disc is marked AGO/40
Anybody seen these before?
Cheers

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
The 3 points on the triangular plate should be adjusted to touch the rim of the wheel in 3 places
Once the 3 lugs are positioned correctly, you can put the two sets of gauges lug to lug to zero.
Having 3 location points over the usual 2 will make the readings more accurate & should eliminate any rotation of the gauges, something that can be an issue on normal 2 point gauges.

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
Thanks Mark. I was thinking something along those lines. The 5 foot long poles have no support/feet.
Perhaps the 3 point fixing will be sufficient for them to hover??
Will give them a go at the weekend and see if I can fathom them.

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
A really decent set of pictures would get this bottomed in no time flat. If they have no feet, how are they standing up in the original pictures?

Re: Dunlop tracking gauges
From what I can see, only one of the three "lugs" is adjustable is that correct ?. If so the pitch of the two non adjustable ones will limit the wheel diameter these can be used on. Do they actually fit a 10" wheel rim ?. Also it's not clear from your photos what else this is comprised of, can you show a bit more please ?. If it's like mine then everything is supported by the wheel clamps, there is nothing else to support it. Mine have a spirit level on each side so that you can align them perfectly level before tightening them then the wire just stretches across the car connected to both of the dials. I'm assuming yours is similar but just an earlier version.
