I connected the motor up to a battery today and a cacophony of noise happened, the motor wasn’t happy. I opened the case up and before I thought too closely about pulled the armature out to find two very dry bearings. However, getting the thing back together doesn’t appear simple as it’s next to impossible to hold the brushes in while the armature is refitted.
Any ideas..?

Re: Overhaul the fug stirrer motor..
I've gotten some really hard to get together setups in line before...
Can you snap and post some pictures?
Not knowing exactly what the motor looks like-
I've used the below on starter motors, alternators, electric motors...
take a thicker solid copper wire- like a household electric wire.
Hammer one end of it to a flat spade shape, then bend it over 90 degrees a centimeter or so from the flat. Either the flat parallel, or perpendicular to the wire... whichever works better to reach with.
Make the flat thin enough to poke into the body of the brush holder between it and the brush.... jamming it loosely in place.
With two holder wires, you can sometimes get the armature into place with enough room to pull the wire "holders" out afterwards.
Or- alternatively- make a set of extended "tweezers" with the wire... but pressing outwards that will slip out when the armature pushes thru.

I can't take credit for what others built- all I can do is try to put her back on the road.
You just can't fix stupid... you can hide it sometimes though...

Re: Overhaul the fug stirrer motor..
When I used to overhaul them, I took the Pinion off the shaft and removed the front end cover, assembled the armature in to the back plate, so I could hold the brushes back, then put the armature in to the stator and refitted the front plate and pinion.
