1071 S engine
Regarding earlier posts about dating a 1071 engine . Note the open fuel pump hole ? ..Could the clever among you date this ? ….. Thanks Shirley

Thanks Simon . My 1071S according to my heritage cert was built June 63 . So that all adds up nicely … . The 190 box has straight cut gears as well . …. i will have a look at the bearing caps .. shirley

Nothing stamped on the bearing caps . Also no stamped number on the block by the water pump hole ? . Is that what you expected re: the question. …. Shirley

Yes probably, very early blocks have no stamped numbers at all , then you get some only on caps but we are talking about very early numbers such as C11

That particular block belongs to my 1071 S but I have another two 1071 blocks so will have a look at the dates . …. Shirley

No they didn't. There are at least two types of FJ block. The one with the hole and a slightly later type without. Just to confuse things... my slightly later (F3A) block has both the flat front and the hole.... Can’t actually confirm the hole but does have the bolted on plate that would cover the hole???
