British Standard Code for WT3 Old English White

Post by Dave_R »

The reverse rims are looking a bit shabby on my 63 mini so I am looking to have them redone. Anyone know what the British Standard code is for WT3 Old English White (can't seem to find any UK reference numbers for this...).

Before you leap........ There's a school of thought that the wheels are not OEwhite but a colour quite close to it. Something like a Land Rover colour.....? Hopefully a knowledgeable soul will come on board at spell it out

There are two versions of OEW, I can check but I think it changed around 66. The earlier shade is slightly lighter.

As said however, the original wheels I have look more creamy than OEW anyway. There is a thread on it somewhere on here but not found it in a quick search.

LRC007 Land Rover Limestone is considered more correct, definitely not OEW ;)

It is interesting as all referenced I can find relate to OEW.

Can't always tell until you see it in person but even this reference looks close (more of an 'off-white').

The early OEW was more creamy and most commonly used on Morris 1000 and Oxford/Cambridge wheels.

Wouldn't these wheels have been painted by Dunlop at their factory, hence the not quite OEW colour.

Just to reiterate, I have some genuine early 64 OEW parts here and WT3 from Frost and the likes is a little darker, maybe greyer too.

Here's my original 64 door with the chrome trim lifted off, so it has been protected all these years and is quite pale - ignore the blue as that was overpainted when it was used on another car.

I have tried to find my comparison pics as it was a while ago, but even the darker version isn't the 'ice cream' of the original 64 wheels I have here. Looking under the hub cap area is where I am checking. FYI my 66's wheels are creamier again, so not consistent either. Go with the Landrover colour ;-)
