Gear Stick Rattle
My remote shifter gear sticker rattles like crazy. I’ve inspected the plastic retainer clip and the spring that it sits on and both appear fine. I can’t even figure out where the rattle is coming from exactly. Any thoughts? Some of the parts to replace are also NLA, so looking for links/suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Gear Stick Rattle
This has been a problem since day one of Mini Coopers. There will be as many cures as there are answers. Here's my 10p's worth. Have you got your parts list handy...........?
The best cure that I found was to replace the aptly named anti-rattle plunger and spring, (MF/item 17). Better still, I machined a slightly longer one. GOOD results.
Replace item 43, the bush but make sure that it is a stonking good fit in the lever. Even a new one was like a sausage in the high street until I wrapped one layer of .004" brass shim around it and pushed it in.
Another thing I did was to cut a circular ring of .010 shim material the same shape as the flange 42 so that the spring 39 pressed down on it a bit harder and in turn, ensured that this plastic split ring pressed down harder on the gear lever ball, thus keeping the gear lever from rattling.
Keep the moving bits and pieces lightly greased too
No doubt, the most effective was making a new slightly longer anti rattle plunger (17). They call it something else...., but it is an anti rattle plunger! Good luck
