buzzing sound from gear lever
Totally rebuilt gearbox and engine all new bushes bearing gears as far as I could find. all seems to work well apart from a slightly noisy drop gear although this is getting better the more I use it,and a buzz or rattle resonation on the long gear lever it goes away with a slight bit of pressure on the gear lever, any ideas what this might be?

Re: buzzing sound from gear lever
Even the works Mini Coopers often had a remote gear lever complete with some rubber hose to stop the buzz.....

Re: buzzing sound from gear lever
Sounds like the small bush that fits at the bottom of the lever could be worn.
Depending on the age of the shifter depends which you need, either part no 40 or part no 50 on the link

Mine buzzed like a box of angry wasps. As the others have said, changed the plastic bushes and it sort-of cured it. What I did do to finally cure it was to slim down the underside of the big split plastic washer thinggy so that it pressed down harder on the gearlever ball.

Re: buzzing sound from gear lever
When Minis were well used daily drivers changing the various bushes never worked for very long but there are some good ideas to try in this thread below:-

Re: buzzing sound from gear lever
I had a similar issue with my magic wand gear lever. I think the main issue is the ball on the end of the lever is metal in the metal shift cup. Later cars have the plastic bush

Yes this is a magic wand type, interestingly i vaguely remember a Morris minor bush pushed onto the ball end…. When I got it back out of storage Now I know why!
