Kangol Lift Type 3 Point Seat Belt

Post by a_d_jackson »

I have Kangol / BMC logo lift type seat belts fitted in my Countryman. The lift part which is bolted to the floor has 2 bolts in it. I'm trying to work out if I have 2 drivers-side belt lifts as they appear to be 'handed' as they are moulded to fit the tunnel. Is this the case or are they universal and the passenger side just has to twist round?

I am experiencing your same question.
Both belts are identical when layed flat next to each other.

The driver side belt is mounted on the passenger side of the tunnel and the opposite for the passenger.
Then neither belt is twisted.

Here are instructions.

Is the tunnel anchor mount fitted under the carpet and then putting a slit in the carpet like this picture?

Just to confirm, our two cars with these belts both use the opposite side tunnel location. In our case, there are two holes as a reinforcing plate is fitted in the tunnel and held in place by a bolt. So the seatbelt fixing location is strengthened as the belt's bolt goes through the same reinforcing plate. We have seen a few like this on here, and later cars seem to have a specially made reinforcement plate - mine are clearly 'hand crafted' ;-)

Here is what I have for my Kangol belt

The reinforcing plate is at the top and is located under the car in the tunnel.
The belt is held to this plate with screws.

Here is picture of my template (test fit) using a flooring sample.
The carpet will have a slit in it for the belt. The screws will be under the carpet.

Were these Kangol belts factory installed?
