Tappet no 1

Post by Robbie224 »

Hi. Is it normal to have some side to side movement on tappet no 1. Adjusted tappets noticing once value no 1 is fully closed with tappet under no resistance load it can be moved side to side abit on the lubricantion shaft . Any thoughts?
Thanks Rob

What we want to know is this;
does it move longitudinally - or slide - slightly left and right along the rocker shaft
OR does it twist or rotate slightly?

It slides slightly left and right along the rocker shaft, doesn't twist or rotate engine still runs well.

Another name for end-float is 'running clearance'. It's as simple as that without going into the inner technicalities.....

Usually there is a large flat spring washer fitted to either end of the rocker shaft to take up this end float. It is likely that someone has removed these at some time, leaving you with the situation you have here. The springs are not essential, but do help take up that extra bit of slop.

1275GT rocker shaft assembly doesn't have any double coil spring washers does it?

I thought that everything did. But don't have a GT Parts list to check specifically.

12H engines do not have the spring washer.

Minispares sell two sizes of washer and a spacer kit so that you can correct any offset from the rocker to the valve stem

Perfect thank you. Is it possible to remove split pin from tappet no 1 end of shaft and slide that tappet off shaft with removing complete rocker assembly?
