Bench test a control box

Post by gs.davies »

Is it possible to bench test a control box?

Got a couple here and wanted to check they’re working before fitting them up or binning them…

That'd be interesting to know although there is a bit about them in the workshop manual.

As I thought, you do really need a generator and a battery in circuit..

Oh well 😂

For testing the regulator I would have thought you could use a DC Variable power supply in place of the dynamo.

I cheated after a couple of Chinese non starters and got solid state internals fitted into the original box

That's interesting.. so a solid state control for a dynamo output? Got any further details on this?

I did my own for £70. Same unit as fitted in dynamo regulators.

Got fed up with rubbish modern ones not working. Had one of these for 7 years, run perfectly. Voltage is 14 volts without load.
