I found these hefty bolts but have no idea where they go.

They are 3/8” wide and 16 threads per inch.

Any thoughts?

Shorties look like they're UNC's and from the clutch slave cylinder.

Can't see the long ones going anywhere

I can account for the bolts for the shift housing and the slave cylinder.
My shift housing bolts look new so these must be the original bolts I removed 30 years ago!

Thanks

And while you're there Roger, don't forget to copper-slip / copper grease the shanks and threads where they pass through or thread into alloy

I can’t see those long set screws being used for anything on a Mini. They would be proper bolts if that length.

I agree with Andrew.

And being pedantic... a "bolt" has a plain section of shank, whereas a "screw" is threaded up to the head
(strictly speaking, it's actually a "machine screw" to differentiate it from a "wood-screw"...)

Sorry... I'll get my coat...

In Australia at least both long bolts and machine screws were used to attach the remote control extension to the diff housing. This is vouched for by John Smidt, the undisputed Mini King who has purchased, dismantled and repaired more Minis than I care to think about. It's one of his "I'll bet you didn't know" questions. Whether this is by design or due to supply problems is unclear.

The parts book quotes HZC628, which is a 3/8" x 3 1/2" zinc bolt.

I presume you have sorted your faulty indicators given you've now moved onto SU fuel pumps and newly discovered bolts. Sorry set screws.

The remote housing certainly had the long UNC set screws on mine.
Not many UNC applications on the Mini, remote housing, clutch slave and starter solenoid bracket mounting IIRC.

And ‘wok’ bolts

Possibly a supply thing then. We sometimes get set screws sent in place of bolts.

Personally I wouldn’t use set screws for that application and haven’t ever seen them myself on a car but quite obviously they were sometimes used.

My '64 car has the same bolts fitted, that's how I recognized them in the original post. They won't be going back in though.

I've got long screws on mine after a quick look. I don't like it either but must have put them back during the many times I've had it all apart. Will change for bolts next opportunity. But that said, there is very little weight/load hanging on them to cause any concern - except that it ain't right! I wish I had all these examples of sound v non compliant engineering when I was teaching. REAL examples do keep lessons alive - and students awake!!!!!
