Headlamp rims, and bonnet buffer holes

Post by mini_surfari »

Evening all,

Is there any great different between headlamp rings? We have a good original set with dimples on top, but they just won't fit on metal bowls. They have a rolled lip on the inside which seems too thick. I've checked the minispares versions on my other car and they don't have this.

Also, can anyone tell me the hole size for the slam panel bonnet buffers... now its painted and I've gone to fit them and hole is waaay too tight  .

Cheers!

The bonnet buffer hole size is 3/8" .
I can't help on the H/L rims, but do know the MK1-2 Mini ones (originally) have a rivet, not a dimple.
The dimpled ones are usually made later, or aftermarket and have a different profile ( more conical) from my observation.

Check your bumper rubbers for the offset of the centre as they can be deeper on one side than another. Mine felt very tight indeed but once I spotted that and put the 'longer' end in first, it as a fair bit easier ;-)

Pattern headlamp bowls are well known to be the wrong shape for headlamp rings. They have been wrong for years.

The plastic bowls are much better. Not ideal for a 100 point resto, but brilliant for day to day.
