What is the correct wheel offset for drum/998 Cooper brakes?

Post by gs.davies »

I've got an option on a set of 4.5 Minilites but I'm unsure on the offset of them. I've asked the guy selling them to confirm what the offset is (measure from inside of the rim to the wheel centre. Can anyone confirm what number I'm looking for as correct for this application?

Cheers,
Gary

Minilite have the modern ones at +23 and include the backspace

JBW have theirs at +21 for comparison

Many thanks. We’ve measured the backspace at 101mm so S offset. I think on 998 discs the wheels will sit too far inward. Annoying as they were a bit of a bargain

If you can get away with a 10mm spacer it’d end up about the same.

I could do. Turns out the wheels don’t have nuts and they’re white so I’d have to add stripping and refinishing into the mix too. Really wanted to get them alodine dipped for the gold finish.

I’ll wait until something more suitable comes up.

If you don't mind me suggesting it Gary, what do look very good - and interesting - on a little 998 Cooper are 4.5" S wheels, Minimal spacing and faffing around too.

Interesting because onlookers are left wondering if it's a Cooper with S wheels - or an S with Cooper badges.

Or in my case wondering why he removed the Single Leading Shoes and went to the trouble of NOT fitting S brakes whilst leaving the Austin Seven badging in place
