Ignition warning lamp

When switching the ignition on before the engine the ignition lamp glows very faintly When disconnected from the control box and then connected to the battery direct it’s it’s usual brightness Bearing in mind that the car is not that far in restoration so there is no engine or dynamo built in yet does the control box need replacement or can it be fixed
