Sliding Glass and Rear Hinge Glass
Hi guys,
I'm in need of the sliding glass and rear quarter pop out glass. Are these items interchangeable from a MK2 to a Mk1? I have a 67 Mk1 and have the opportunity to purchase the glass from the MK2. I did a quick search and didn't see anything pop up.
Also what about the door handles/ locking etc.

Off the top of my head, If iy's just the GLASS, then I think that the parts you mention will all interchhange. Door handles......., then, they'll interchange /fit but there will be pattern changes

Re: Sliding Glass and Rear Hinge Glass
The mk2 windows are taller as is the rear screen so aren't interchangeable with mk1 items. This was to do with matching the taller door glass on the internal hinged doors that were to be introduced for the mk3 but were already used on the Elf and Hornet I believe.

Re: Sliding Glass and Rear Hinge Glass
It was to do with the introduction of the internally hinged doors that had taller glass. I don't know why this was applied to the mk2 with external hinges, probably just BMC changing all side panels in advance of introducing the mk3. Someone on here is bound to know more details.

I guess that makes sense.. I'm in no rush but the guy is willing to part out so thought I would jump on it while I could... I appreciate the information... another wrinkle on the brain.

Just ask him to measure the window height just to confirm, the difference is significant not just a fraction of an inch.

Re: Sliding Glass and Rear Hinge Glass
Pretty sure the Mk2 rear side window glass is the same height as the Mk1, just that the frame doesn't have piano hinges like the Mk1. Mk3 side glass is taller to match internal hinge match doors. ie. almost up to just below the roof gutter.
Also rear window of Mk2 and Mk3 are wider but pretty sure they are same height as Mk1 rear window.

Yes I think I'm getting wires crossed, it's the mk3 glass that is taller, apologies, I should have remembered as I had a stash of mk3 windows thinking I could use them on my mk2 but they were much bigger.
So....... looks like you can use them....... I'll check my facts next time

Re: Sliding Glass and Rear Hinge Glass
Sliding fronts are same Mk1 & Mk2 including Van & Pickup. Date codes on glass and possibly manufacturer will of course be different but only Mini restoration 'anoraks/rivet counters' would worry about that...

Talking of Spider leaving and when all that is really required is a bout of good diplomacy. This thread is a GOOD example of just how it can work. A bit of disagreement, a bit of discussion, a bit of explanation.......... and we're all good pals again

Re: Sliding Glass and Rear Hinge Glass
Note I only said "pretty sure" as I know there are lots of production anomalies that have arisen over the years to disprove what the 'experts', reference books and official parts lists say!

eg. I remember many years ago no one believed there were some Mk2 Minis that left the production line with Mk3 bootlids and in Mk3 colours, that was until a few rare surviving unmolested examples turned up, along with a colour production line photo which appeared to also confirm this was the case.

Re: Sliding Glass and Rear Hinge Glass
Mk2 tears and very late 67 mk1 are stainless split top and bottom two small hinge points. Mk1 has chrome frame split front and back large piano chrome hinge . The glas is sort of changeable as the cut outs for joints are not same position Mk3 don’t fit as taller

Re: Sliding Glass and Rear Hinge Glass
Yes. My late Mk1 had the Mk2 type stainless steel rear quarter windows with the clip type hinges as opposed to the long piano hinges.

Re: Sliding Glass and Rear Hinge Glass
They seller sent me video of the hinges in the rear quarter working. They ARE piano hinges... so maybe some cross over for late mk1s and early mk2s? Anyways going to try to get them and will confirm haha
