Not sure what block I have located.

Post by CooperTune »

I have located what I think is a thick flange Mk2 998 Cooper engine. The best I can find out is it came out of a chopped up welded together roadster. The roadster has a 6 clock Inno dash. I have had 5 clock Inno 1001 Coopers which seem to have 998 Cooper power. Starting at the top it has a 295 cyl head. D crown std pistons and a 15T crank and a two ring cam. The block is my question. This is a thick flange 998 block. The tag has been removed and a number stamped in it's place H 5 1 2 2 8, Cast next to fuel pump mount C 2 1 F 4 and at the rear lower corner 12A 497 stamped by water pump at deck 601. I'm not sure about the numbers but what threw me is the area around the dizzy mount. While there are no A+ ribs it appears the block is cast for an A+ dizzy hold down clamp. While not drilled or tapped and still using the reducer sleeve and early dizzy I have just never seen this. It is going to get rebuilt. Thanks for any feed beck regards Steve (CTR)

12A497 is the standard thick walled block as used on the 998 and 1098 engine.
