fitting new fuel line

Post by davidmuir »

Going to fit a new , 5/16", fuel line........will the 5/16" go through the small 'sleeve' up at the front bulkhead?? (can't measure it without dismantling original VERY short bit of original pipe there!) I guess it'll be a bit of a pain wrestling with a long pipe up behind the front subframe but folks must have done it!

Assume we talk Mk1 replacing the long 5/16" Fuel Pipe Front to Rear .. i have only replaced the underside floor one section 5/16" Fuel Pipe as part of the full restoration and that Fuel Pipe is one of the first items than get fitted because it runs behind both front & rear subframes all quite straightforward job before subframes are fitted .. BUT replacing that Pipe within a Car that is fully built .. i would try to get the use of a Car Lift then with some of your own Blood,Sweat & Tears i think its possible

Did this many years ago and started from the front. The pipe was flattened and turned at the end to help it to pass down the subframe. This bent over end had a hole drilled in the end with wire hooked in ready - so it was pulled through.then pulled back up into the mount - after it got through the bends were enhanced with wood - gently!!!! After the underside, we twisted the pipe underneath then put a 90 degree bend at the end with a second bend at rear subframe height. Twist the pipe back again to feed this up, and then grab the wire to pull the line back to where it meets the rubber line for the pump.

At least that was how we did it ;-)
