What am I missing?
I purchased a new throttle cable from Somerford - NAM7914.
I just tried to insert the brass end of the cable into the “tube” on the bulkhead.
Surprisingly the brass end is slightly too large to fit into the “tube”.
The outer portion of the “tube” is approx. 3/8” deep and then narrows.
I expected the narrow portion of the brass fitting to sit in the narrow end of the “tube”.
What am I missing?
Do I have the wrong part?
Is something else fitted to the “tube” that is slightly wider to accept the brass fitting?
How long should this cable be for a 1966 LHD Cooper S?
My cable is approx 30-31” in length.

Re: Throttle cable through bulkhead
Pictures aren’t working for me, but are you sure you don’t have an old cable end stuck in the hole?

Re: Throttle cable through bulkhead
Doesn't the sleeve not pass through the bulkhead and the 'tube' acts as the stop for the outer with just the cable passing through to the bulkhead to the pedal.

Re: Throttle cable through bulkhead
Looks like the correct bit to me.
Just pull the inner wire completely out of the outer tube, poke the bare end of the inner through the firewall tube from inside the car, Feed the outer back over the inner from the engine bay side. The ferrule that you can see in the photo near the stopper on the inner fits into a tube on the engine side of the firewall.
The stopper then sits in the slotted hole in the accelerator pedal arm,
The ferrule at the other end sits in the tubular fitting that is part of the bracket that attaches to the intake manifold and the bare end of the inner passses through it and attaches to the throttle arm on the carb....
Phew...a lot of words easilly replaced with a couple of photos if Ihad any:)
Cheers, Ian
PS Make sure the bare end of the inner can’t unravel - sometimes the strands are not bound together well and a bit of solder can help.... just make sure not to overdo it. If you add too much the increased thickness may prevent the inner passing through the firewall bracket.

Re: Throttle cable through bulkhead
That thought had occurred to me as well!
Looks like the original brass fitting is stuck in the hole.
I also found part of the old “yellow” cable in the hole confirming the problem.
This was not noticed when the car was taken apart and painted.
I will work to free the old cable end.

Re: Throttle cable through bulkhead
When you install the new cable, I would suggest you chamfer the inside of the ferrule. The action of the throttle pedal actually pulls the cable in a downward direction such that the cable rubs on the sharp edge of the ferrule and causes friction. The chamfer makes for a smoother cable operation.

Re: Throttle cable through bulkhead
Mission accomplished!
Thanks to all.
Here are a few pictures.
This is the before picture showing old cable end stuck in tube/hole.
Had to drill out the old cable end which was stuck in the tube/hole.
New cable inserted - engine bay
New cable inserted through throttle pedal and clip applied. Also note the throttle pedal stop behind pedal just below clip.
