Which sump guard should i use?

Post by harrymini »

My historic replica is nearing completion now, car is away at a specialist getting the engine tuned, suspension set up etc.

Wanting to put a sump guard on it and wondering what people like to use?

Have you ever thought outside the box Harry? Do you actually NEED a sump guard for your replica? Are you going to use it in earnest or do you want it to look the part. I ask because my friend here likes the LOOK of the sump guard and a few extra lights on his look-a-like replica rally type mini but ain't never going to use it hammer and tongs. So he's made himself a truly (and I mean spectacular...) good looking lightweight, much thinner sheet metal replica that he's had welded up by a small engineering works on an industrial estate locally. Looks like the real McCoy but 1/3rd the weight - and price. Just thinkin'.......

Remember the old iron Scottish ones? The car might not survive but the sumpguard coped admirably here in the welsh testing grounds ;-)

I must admit I hit the "play button" above. But only once

The Innocenti sumpguard is quite sturdy - sadly the replica from MS is only half as good as the original and doesn't fit the original mounting points either.
Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s :ugeek:
