I converted a left hand tank to right hand back in 1968! from memory I cut the hump where the filler neck
sits welded a flat piece over the hole and repositioned the neck can't remember how the rest was done.
At the time was doing a lot of driving from Glasgow to the Eastern side of Holland via Dover 850mls, got kind of
fed up sitting outside petrol stations in the middle of the night waiting for them to open up in the morning!
The available right hand tanks were to pricey even back then, plus being a tight Scot not earning a lot.

As I seem to recall, it was a fairly common mod. The problem was that very few people were game to weld-in the new filler neck. It was a simple job to mark the hole on the body of course. To mark the hole in the tank, you put the new MGB (?) filler nech through the car body, up against the tank (that side now hidden inside the boot don't forget) and spray a white paint inside to clearly mark the hole.

There was a bit of 'adjusting' the tank to get it to seat. John (forget his surname, Purton? but a good pal of the late Steve Smth) from Thatcham did it in the early 70's. Flushed his tank with boiling soda(?) solution and then had exhaust gas running through it for 10 mints and while he was gas welding/brazing the neck in place. Looked good from the outside but inside the boot it looked a bit scruffy. But it did save him £24 or so!

I knew another Mini fan who did it at the same time but he was a Navy engineer (and a good one too.....) who came from Newbury, based in Portsmouth but had to travel to Faslane in Jockland on a regular basis. He had good engineering facilities and did a good job in his red and black Cooper MSM130F

Sadly when I did mine photos were something that I didn't do much of!
I can still see it in my mind, maybe the sweat coming of my brow gas welding
and brazing the neck back on keeps it there.
It was just one of many mods done back then, plenty of ideas and lack of money
and the challenge to make it drove me on.
