Radiator side engine steady

Post by whistler »

Has anyone fitted a top engine steady bar to the radiator side of a hydro suspension mk1/2/3 ?

If so, which one fits and doesn't get in the way of the hydro pipe?

I posted this on TMF and the only response was maybe the DSN 'flying arch' type might fit. I've emailed DSN to ask their opinion but to be honest it's too modern a design for my taste on a mk1 with hydro.

Any other suggestions?

I think they'll all have the same issue as they all use the blanking plate area on that side of the bulkhead to attach.

Some of the later Aussie cars had a factory steady on the radiator side. I can’t remember if they fitted with hydro lines or not, hopefully someone else will know

This is the bracket I use on 1275's.
The image is upside down.
It fits under the thermostat housing.
Use this along with the bulkhead bracket in Timmy's post above.
Pretty sure it fits with the hydrolastic, as we used them on the hydro rally car.
The standard stabiliser bar is used, and it goes straight back, not at an angle.
Depending on the bulkhead bracket (there are a couple of types) you may need to shorten the bar (which does leave more room for the heater hose).
