Imagine my horror at discovering that my Mini starter motor will not fit the Morris Minor because the mounting bolt holes are too close together.
Did everyone know this or are they the same but I have I got it all wrong?

Nope, you have it right. For what ever crazy reason, the In-line Starters have the Mounting Holes about 3/8" further apart. The starters from RWD Opel Cadet fits straight on to the In-line engines.

Thanks Spider.
You know when you assume something for over 40 years and then you suddenly realize you're wrong...?

You can swap the ends over easily if you have a new lucas mini starter and the original MM starter.
I have done it many times.
