Gearbox refurbishment advice

Finally got the 333 gearbox apart and got the important parts disassembled. Things don't look promising at all...

I am pretty used to seeing things like layshafts and bearings needing replacement but it looks like the laygear (22G1100) is complete junk based on the inside bearing surface on the first gear end-

I would also say that the third motion shaft input side is junk as well-

Ouch, I just got a good look at 2nd gear and there is major damage to the drive dogs so 2nd gear is toast as well !

So am I just screwed here? Looks like I can find an aftermarket laygear but they are very expensive and I am not sure of the quality. What about third motion shafts and things like 2nd gear?

Talk to John Guess at Guess-works. He has the technology and equipment to maybe sort that.

Yep, sadly they look unserviceable.

Beware of some repro stuff, as its not always that good. Simon Naylor, 251ENG on here is the best guy to talk to.

As in the e-mail I sent you just now, don't fret as help is on the way. we should be able to find usable stuff for you. Never seen that kind of damage before. That second gear is priceless and I would put it in our clubs "box of shame". The fun of restoring old Mini components can be very challenging.

I have a couple of new and good used 22g1100 laygears if you don't have any luck else where .

I'm in western Canada.

For the bearing seats and shafts you could consider metal spraying and re-grinding. But that ain't help with the gear cogs I suppose.

This is my trusted service provider for metal spraying, there's surely one close to you too.
