Well, after checking through my stash of finicky repair stuff, I found I was out of 1/4-28 helicoils.........what to do, what to do......
Always more than one way to skin a cat, how about a two different sized stud, should work ok, no????
Turns out it works fine, here's some pics....
Not only could I not find any 1/4" Helicoils, I also couldn't find my 1/4-28 Die.........Oh well, I do have a screw cutting lathe, gotta do it the hard way............
Finished part......the split nut was so I could hold it in the Lathe Chuck, without damaging the threads.......
Stripped hole was just big enough to take the 5/16 UNF tap.......Only had a bottoming tap which wouldn't start in the hole, had to cheat........used a 5/16" UNC taper tap to just get a couple of threads started, then the UNF bottoming tap went right in easy peasy.......Sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do.........
Once tapped, the two threaded stud spun right in.......
Fixed, Oh joy..........
Then, after doing all that work, I just realized that that particular hole uses a screw, not a stud........

Looks like I'll have to go get some Helicoils after all
