Advice on Push button Starter Solenoids

Post by JeremyD »

As we are all aware the nice shiney Lucas solenoids in their nice green boxes are rubbish and only last between 2 and 12 months, then fail for no reason, usually after a long drive and the car left in the garage until the next drive when it won't start. Does anyone know of a different manufacturer of the same type, or does anyone know where I can find a genuine, made in England Lucas.

On a old scrapyard.

I got mine exactly 10 years ago as a used 1964 Part from MC Donald Mini's in edinburgh and it still works like it's new.

I would never ever buy a expensive new one...
I promise i won't buy another MkI...

Agree with above - original ones are far far superior.

I had a repro one come apart on a run back from a trip to Kent. Had to stop (before I realised what had happened) and had to get a guy in the lay-by to bump start me to get going again and prayed it didnt stop at a junction or anything :o

NOS ones come up every now and then but a good used one is fine.

My ‘new’ one failed after about 6 starts. One of many new things I’ve wasted money on of late :-(

AFAIK they are the same as on a mk2 Jag.
If so I may have one lying around, or should be able to get one from the garage I sometimes work for.
If it is the same.. what is the code?
They may be old Lucas.
Let me know.

Durite make one that so far has been reliable for me.
I’ve always found their stuff to be good quality

I will vote for the Durite Solenoid .. no issues with my two ..other than after a few years the rubber button will tend to falloff

That link goes to a 24v solenoid. Can that be used on a 12v mini?
