Cream Crackle

I have just received a new Cream Crackle Headlining, I’m a little surprised at the colour, it is a lot more ‘yellow’ than I thought it would be,

There is a considerable difference between the new headlining and the existing sun visors.
The sun visors are still a bit scruffy, I gave them a quick wipe over but they still need a good scrub but they will not darken down to the new colour. Interestingly both sun visors are the same colour both sides so the colour does not appear to have faded.

Are those sunvisors light grey rather than cream,

Start smoking, very soon after both head lining & visors will be a similar colour

Suggest you will never match 60 year old sunvisors to a new Headlining whatever the supplier .. the way to go is repaint the original headlining & your sunvisors with Vinylcoat Paint (& use their pre paint prep).. worked for me.

The "light grey" interior trim is a different texture to the cream crackle.

None of my visors have that ribbed recess, what year is this from please as they look like the 64 hinged type?

Andy Pen, the are off a 1965 Riley Elf.
I am surprised there is such a colour difference, if they were faded one would have presumed one side would have been worse than the other as they are usually folded away,

Next question.
Any great ideas on how to remove the inner visor mounts? I suspect they are just wedge pins and need the pins either pushing in ( & losing them) or pulling them out. How best to pull the pins out?

Usually this isn't a problem as the pins have invariably fallen out.

You may be able to push the centre pin out from behind if you can get your fingers in. But if not you may be able to push it straight through from the front using a small drift.

Whichever way, you need to remove the centre pin & the clip just pulls out.

Don't knacker it though! Repros aren't too good & they are rare!

I carefully drilled mine and used an extractor. I needn't have bothered as tapping them through as Marks says is much easier. The centre pin pushes open 4 clip areas. When the pin is out the trip is to lubricate them if they are stuck as you are simply compressing these clip areas so that they slide out. Same kind of moulding as these mini spares ones.

Can’t get in behind the clip, space is too tight. I did not think I would be able to get replacements for these but Somerford have them for £1.02, so I’ll just knot the pins through and get new clips.

So what are these from? They are Grey Crackle and are on my car and are wrong , should be Cream Crackle. Not been painted so original but original to what ?

The new clips are 3D printed & are NOT great. Save your originals if at all possible.

Ha, ha, you have got me. No doubt they are original, but maybe a short batch or odd lot, TBH I don't really know.

This is the texture of the light grey headlining that I have in my 1960 & 61 cars, it matches with the Newton light grey too.

Polarsilver, is that Vinylkote formula 40? It only appears to be available from 1L which is a bit much for 2 sunvisors.

They can supply in a Rattle Can & will match to your sample or something colour from their standard range .. i would also ask for a small tin of vinyle prep.. that stuff just wipes onto the surface before paint is applied,, sort of a sticky surface treatment.
I have painted vinyl headlining etc & leather seats with their paint & found it to be very good.

Me too - changed a rear seat from green to red - using a white in between... no-one has ever noticed... still looking good after 30 years too

have some grey crackle here amongst the stuff I dug out of my shed. That was an accumulation of stuff grabbed from scrappies in my 'yoof' and never binned. Best I can recall is that is came out of one of the last Mk1s we ever found there - I remember it well because getting it out was a balancing act - as it was on top of two other cars. Almond green in case that is relevant.

I've got a similar problem with the headlining material used around the Webasto sunroof in my '63 which looks to be crackle grey. He's a snap of some material...

Your Cream crackle looks more like I would have expected, mine is very yellow, but I have queried it and have been told it is correct. I just need to obtain the correct shade of Vinylkote for the sun visors.
