Vertical Oil Cooler

Post by Tops1e »

Hello,
I am nearing the end of a complete restoration of my 1071 Morris Cooper Cooper S manufactured In March 1964.The car was an export.
The heritage certificate states that the car has no heater installed, but no mention of an oil cooler. Did all Cooper S's have an oil cooler installed? If so, did mine have a vertical oil cooler? Where can I obtain full specifications and drawings of a vertical oil cooler.
Thank you for your help.

Very, very few 1071's had an oil cooler fitted before it left the factory, if it did it would have been listed as an extra.

It is possible to say that your car DID NOT have an oil cooler when it left the factory.

BTW, Those vertical oil coolers are both expensive & crap. the pipes & end plates are very prone to cracking !

Mine wasn't listed on the Heritage Cert so I guess it was added later. From the green paint on it I can only imagine with the engine out though?

Car had done 33k miles when the engine was replaced with a 1275 unit for racing and rallying, and left in a corner intact. Had it pressure tested and all's good thankfully ;-)

At the time we were just lazy Mark - my mate's under house huge heated garage had tea chests in the corner from his moving in, so he 'repurposed them'. With the exception of one that had a turquoise paint tin drop in from the shelf and make a mess on the brocade rear seat and speedo, it was pretty much time warp stuff until he moved in the early 90s.

That's when his wife demanded the tea chests back, and I walked in and bought the lot ;-)
