850 to 1275 engine mount

Post by roymck »

More lockdown madness , with the radiator out of my 1963 850 fitted with 1275 it’s a good opportunity to resolve how to replace the fan belt . I should know about this but it’s many years ago since I resolved this , so I forgotten how I did it on another mini .
It has the rad/engine mounting from a 850 . This bolts with 4 bolts onto the alloy block on the gearbox , and with the large 1275 lower pulley there is no clearance for fan belt replacement . Don’t think there is enough meat to thin the steel bracket down without weakening it .
Do I need to change the alloy block on the gearbox to the type with the horizontal bolts and fit the later steel radiator/ engine mount bracket or is there another way , if not I am going to have to source parts .
Now I’m stuck yet again . Thanks

Yes I know it’s not original

My wife says I don’t listen to her or something like that !

The bracket that bolts to the engine mount carrier which then bolts to the rad shroud is different on a 1275 and also the bottom cowl has the mounting plate welded the other way around.

1071Bob posted up the differences a while back.

I think you will need to change to the square alloy block and different mounting bracket but stand to be corrected here.
