Early temp sender

Anybody know where to source the temp sender from a non voltage stabilized car (mid 1964 S)? I have what I thought was the correct sender but as the car warms up it just pegs the temp gauge. Pretty sure it isn't overheating when this happens...

I know there have been many parallel threads on this topic recently but I was able to source a TT3800 replacement sensor which I was told is a replacement for the early non-stabilized sensor however I am still seeing the exact same issue. The temp gauge slowly just pegs at full hot.

Is this the correct gauge for a non-stabilized setup? I am assuming that this is for the stabilized setup so what does a non-stabilized gauge look like?

The early non- stabilized gauges have two thumb wheel studs and three terminals and the needle is not damped and will swing if you shake the gauge.
If you look under the yellow line on the second picture you will see the part number as shown, you have to view it at a certain angle to see the number as it's between the two parts of the display.

Gareth, I suspect the sensor is good. I have tried all sorts of sensors in my parts stash and I also just obtained a replacement TT3800 and all act the same way. I need to see if I can find the old temp gauge then I can better tell what is happening.

The gauge you have Gary is a later Thermal type that uses the 10 Volt Stabilized supply.

I am unable to locate an early temp gauge in my parts stash here at home so I had the idea to install a stabilizer (voltage regulator) on the back of my speedo just so I could use the newer style temp gauge. I think I should be able to create a hybrid system (at least while I search for an early temp gauge) by running the fuel gauge directly off the battery supply and running the temp gauge off of a stabilizer.
Of course it is not quite that easy since my speedo is apparently an early "S" type where there is a bulb socket across the top right where you would normally mount the stabilizer!

For now, of course I can just hang the stabilizer in the wrong spot just to get it to work. I never realized earlier cars were that much different...

Does anyone see a problem with my "theory"?

Gary, your idea is OK, but be sure to Earth the body of the Stabaliser.

The voltage stabiliser hangs to the side of the top bulb holder on a bracket so it will fit as per factory look . I fitted a later tank in my early car so needed a voltage stabiliser for the later fuel gauge to work . Easy job just take the 12v supply that goes to you old gauge to the voltage stabiliser and them off of that onto the old gauge supply .
