Hi,i have just become a member to this forum. I have a simple question about the 333 gearbox. Would anyone know what would be the significance of the letter 'Q' preceding the gearbox identification No. e.g. Q 22G333. (This is a question that has been put to me.) Is there anyone who is not as puzzled as me who would know the answer, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Re: 22G333 gearbox
Q is the later gearbox when they went to U Joint output shafts......
Y is the earlier one
I have two 333 Q gearboxes I would gladly trade for Y ones.......

Re: 22G333 gearbox
Hi. thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I do not have either of the Y or Q 333 boxes, i made the info enquiry on behalf of a friend he has the Q 333 box, for his 1275 S.
But myself i am look for a 22G190 complete gearbox with hardy spicer couplings.
Thanks again for helping out.

And the X series...might even be as rare as the Y series. Only fitted to late 970's

Re: 22G333 gearbox
Does such a thing exist? 190 was the gearbox for 1071 S in 1964, whereas Hardy Spicers were introduced for homologation of the 1275 S in 1966 ???fc1071 wrote:i am look for a 22G190 complete gearbox with hardy spicer couplings

Re: 22G333 gearbox
Ho! I see what your saying then, is that the hardy spicers couplings would be a modification if they were to be seen fitted to a 22G190 1071 cooper S. I have actually seen this at mini shows that i have attended.
Many thanks for that explanation, it makes sense to me now!

Re: 22G333 gearbox
I have had a couple of 190 boxes but one was trash unfortunately, someone took it to repair the casing and it all went badly wrong.
Sadly my Y333 970 Gold seal was something I moved on - and now regret!!
I can confirm that this box didn't have hardy spicers - or at least I agree that they didn't come in until 66.
Also, my working one was still on my original 33k 1071 engine, which was taken out of the car sometime in the late 60s or early 70s to fit a 1275 complete instead. The engine and box had never been apart as far as I could see, and it didn't have the hardy spicer set up.
Hope this helps?
Andy
