H beam and bolts - from Specialist Components, £358!

Was looking at having S Rods lightened and balanced rather than taking a chance on the cheap H beams, but now SC are knocking them out at £354 inc ARP bolts.

50 grams more than MED ETC..but half the price....seems a bit of a no brainer

My guess is they must be made in China, but assume SC are confident with them, they have the SC name on them!

Appreciate any comments or experiences (negative or positive ) before i go ahead

They have been some threads over on Turbo minis using the SC rods.

I have a set of the ebay specials Williams branded (but I guess they are all the same). They have seen 8300 regularly in my SA build.. I met a bloke with a race car at Combe who had them at 9600 in the race car for a season.

I think the rods are not the problem.
The question is, are the ARP bolts ARP bolts, or just rubber bolts with ARP printed on them.....

Thanks for the info, to be honest, hadn’t realised they had been supplying them for so long.

I guess there would be some negative comments if there were issues - cant find any so far

I ordered 6" SC rods with non-S big ends and bushes for 18mm piston pins.
They weighed 570g
Because these rods are not designed for 18mm piston pins, the method of modifying them is to press in a thick-walled bush and it adds weight.

When I fitted them the extra width on the beam contacted the edges of the cylinder bores (+020).
I didn't want to grind the bores as the engine was partly assembled so I sent them back.

I ordered Saenz equivalents. They fitted fine and weighed in a 460g each (but also twice the price)

When they are side by side you can see difference in beam width, not too impressive.

Weight difference is significant as well, 110 grams a rod, or an extra 440 grams spinning around

My standard S rods weigh in at just over 600 grams with no bolts , assume 570 grams is without bolts ?

I am only using the Keith Calver Pistons so, standard gudgeon pin dia,

Saenz rods do look nicely made though...did you get from SH ?

570g was all in with the bolts.
Yes, the Saenz were from Dave at SH Engineering. Swiftune do their version too but were out of stock at that time.
The combination of 6” length with 1.75 big ends is less common because most billet cranks use S dimensions but Dave’s Miglia cranks are modified standard 1275 parts with the 1.75 big ends.

thats a bit worrying, especially if bores are slightly off line by a few thou....suppose that the benefit of I Beam
