Could you guys recommend a nice tap set for cleaning threads after painting / powder coating?
I think I need a set that includes UNF 5/16", 3/8" and 1/4" that should cover pretty much all that I can see on the car.
Am I missing anything? Are there any more taps that would really come in handy in restoring a Mk1?
I would also like to buy a fresh set of SS nuts and bolts to adorn these freshly painted bits, is there a "complete car" set out there?
Cheers!

I managed to break my 5/16 tap which was part of a set.
Got a new one from RDG Tools, well a set of three 1st 2nd and 3rd cut.
Might be better off just buying the ones you need and a tap wrench.

another vote for RDG tools
the taps they sell are great for odd jobs and thread cleaning - i doubt they would be hard enough for constant fresh thread cutting
they are nice and cheap as well, about a fiver for a box of three (1st,2nd&plug) of each thread, so cheap enough to buy and use every so often

please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

Get Presto, traditional british make (actually recently sold to the yanks) as a guide price paid ten quid for all 3 taps in 1/4"unf. To replace the machine mart crap that broke on first use !

Cheers for the replies.
So are the sizes I mentioned pretty much all I'll need for the job or am I missing any?
Also is there a complete car SS nut/bolt set out there?

If anyone else is looking for the same thing the sizes needed for a rebuild seem to be:
UNF 7/16, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 5/16, 1/4
UNC 5/16, 3/8
UNF 7/16, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 5/16, 1/4
UNC 5/16, 3/8
