Hello Gents,
Having a shell done and been told it is the original one that relates to the original morris green log book. It just list's it as blue and this aligns with the paint found in the arches, engine bay, floor pan the like. Albeit, patches around what looks to be the original brown primer and some areas of red lead.
I would have thought it would be clipper blue but under the underseal and much, its coming up a little lighter (somewhere between speedwell and clipper). I'll post some picture when I get a chance but was wondering, what were the blue options at this time. I would have thought it clipper blue only and I cannot account for fading under the arches.
Not too fused about which colour, just want it the original one.
I know on Billys (59 reg) it looks deeper and darker, wondered if it was just the fact it was shiney?

You're quite right about the Blue's available, Speedwell on Austin and Clipper on Morris.
My 59 you saw the other week is obviously a new ish paint job (2008). The factory job wasn't always a great coating under the arches, so could just be a thinner layer of paint?
Speedwell blue
Clipper Blue

When did Surf Blue become standard. I had a 1960 Austin Seven years back and it was Surf Blue. It could have been resprayed before I got it as it also had a Snowberry White roof!

Surf blue was introduced on both Austin and Morris in 1961; think it was August, maybe September. The colour replaced both Speedwell and Clipper blue.

What about the other colours like Cherry Red, OEW and Farina, is there a a concise list somewhere of the change dates ?

All the early colours were changed at the same time. Obviously some carried on after that, like Tartan Red etc
